Looking for a way to improve your crosswind ability?
Try a training session on San Carlos Flight Center’s Xwind 200 crosswind landing simulator!

The Xwind 200 puts you in the cockpit maneuvering your airplane in for a crosswind landing. Unlike most ordinary simulators, you don’t sit in a folding chair staring at a 12-inch computer monitor. In the Xwind 200, your sight reference is the extended runway centerline on the floor in front of you, just like in a real airplane. The machine can simulate crosswinds of varying strength, which, coupled with your flight control movements, result in powerful motors moving your cockpit through drift, yaw, and roll exactly like you experience in your training airplane on landing. The muscle memory and visual practice you develop will directly translate to improved skills the next time you fly.
With the Xwind 200, you can master the crosswind landing without risking an accident. It’s like being in a permanent crosswind condition. You can’t help but learn through tried and true methods that you just can’t get in an airplane. In the two-hour session, you’ll improve your:
- crab technique
- crab to slip on final approach
- sideslip in varying wind conditions
- crosswind touchdown on the landing roll
- sideslip rotation and lift-off
- slip to crab for climbout
- and your overall understanding of crosswind dynamics
San Carlos Flight Center is thrilled to be able to use the Xwind 200 to provide skill-specific training on the hardest part of crosswind flying, all in a safe training environment. No need to wait until the crosswinds are just right. You will develop sensory motor skills you can immediately apply the next time you are in the airplane.
One training session is the equivalent of scores of landings, without all those hours in the traffic pattern. This training is a MUST for pilots that operate out of the airports in the San Francisco Bay area, or anywhere there are challenging crosswinds. Don’t let gentle crosswinds ground your flight!
Improve your crosswind skill and confidence with the Xwind 200!
